Facts on composting
Composting is a natural process that works in the breaking down of organic wastes. These are then formed into a nutrient-filled compost (also known as topsoil). Other than that, it also requires air, water, and some decomposing materials (can be in the form of kitchen scraps and garden wastes). Now, this process also needs a good container, for where to store the compost. This is where the tumblers and the bins come into the picture.

Types of Compost Tumbler
There are 4 basic types of tumbling composters: the Crank, The Center, the Base-Rolling Drum, and the Roll-Around Sphere. Here are a few descriptions to these compost tumblers.
- Crank-Operated Drums – you can turn the contents of this drum easily, as it rests horizontally on an elevated structure. You’ll only need to turn the crank to mix the contents inside it.
- Center-Axle-Drums – now if the crank-operated drum works horizontally, then this one does the opposite of it. When it’s rotated (by means of a central axle), the contents then gets mixed as the drum is turned around. A good example of this would be the tumbleweed composter.
- Base-Rolling Drum – this drum works by rolling it on the ground.
- Roll-Around Sphere – this big ball of equipment works by rolling it all over the garden or lawn.
Advantages to using Compost Tumblers
So instead of making a compost bin, or setting up a compost pile in your backyard, try using compost tumblers for its other benefits.
- Can be pest-resistant and is odorless (no bad smells from decomposing materials)

- Can be easily maintained (you can just turn the contents without difficulty)
- Can accommodate big amounts of organic materials
